The historical thousand mile. Rome edition 2015
The thousand mile, this car race of historical course, it was born in the 1926, when four boys, all with the same passion for cars, give life to a car race in their hometown Brescia.
Count Aymo Moggi di Gradella with a friend of him, Count Franco Mazzotti and the journalist of the Gazzetta dello Sport Giovanni Canestrini, for their skill in competitions and for their incredible tenacity are quickly defined the four musketeers. The route chosen for the race started from Brescia to Rome, for a total lenght of 1600 km – it’s this that give the name to the car race- .
The Thousand mile was a long distance race, made on road open to traffic, that disputed in Italy for twenty four times from 1927 to 1957 – 13 editions before the second world war and 11 after the 1947-.
From 1958 to 1961 other three editions were organized characterized by a path constituted by long lenght of transfer alternated with short stretches of speed – usually in climb-. The ranking compiled according on the time obtained in the speed races.
From 1977 Thousand mile is revived in the form of regularity race of vintage cars which shall be open only cars produced no later than 1957 and participated in the original race.
This year the charming race takes place in a long and incredible week end in May, from 14 to 17, on the classic route Brescia- Rome – Brescia. The event, valid only for vintage cars, will start on Thursday afternoon from Brescia to finish the first race in Rimini, going to Verona.
The competitors will arrive on Friday in Rome. Fans can admire vintage cars in the village set up for the occasion located near Castel Sant’Angelo from 9:00 p.m to 12:00 a.m.
Entered Cars are about 430, with competitors come from 42 Country.
Italian version
